Get me to COP27 - Put forests on the Agenda

Fiona Ryan. I have been working on climate change and forest issues since 1997. We need to end tropical deforestation, which is necessary to keep global warming under 1.5 degrees. The current environmental movement is dominated by people who do not seem to see the importance of economic development in the low and middle-income countries where deforestation is rampant. I need to get to COPs 27 and COP 28 in 2023r to spread the word that emissions trading in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement provides the funding to enable these countries to improve the lives of their people while keeping their forests. I also need to counter the anti-economic development messages from many environment and international aid groups. As for the Biodiversity Convention meeting in Canada in December, deforestation barely gets a mention. So I also need to get to Montreal to emphasise that deforestation is the biggest threat to biodiversity and needs to be treated as such. I have seen many fads go and come in the environment movement let's not move on from deforestation so we can finish fixing a massive threat to the planet and its people and not move on to the next new thing before the job is done
